Kindle version not updated from first edition

I just bought this for my Kindle and the download was smooth, unlike the experience of another reviewer. I decided to buy the Kindle version because I really liked the 'first' edition(2001) of the book.
The book has a lot of great information on teaching EFL, but the Kindle edition(2012) has not been updated. Except for the introduction, this 'new' edition is practically a word-for-word replica of the first edition. Therefore, if you have the first edition, you don't need to purchase the Kindle version.

Great variety and beautiful sketches

While I did not order through Amazon, I believe this is a wonderful book with a great variety and range of artists who share their take on their work. This book is focused on sketching and sketchbooks, not necessarily finalized pieces for viewing or to be sold. These drawings, depending, are more personal and lively I feel since this is usually the rough draft phase of any concept. I loved seeing the design process for each artist and just seeing raw art in its prime. I also loved the variety of material - creatures and all - contained within.
The quality of the book itself is very nice - very sturdy paperback with nice, thick matter paper, which feels nice against the fingers.

Very Readable Overview of Cutting Edge Dream Research

This book is one of the most interesting non-fiction books that I have read in the last few years. The subject matter (dreaming) is inherently interesting, but some of the science is complicated and theoretical. On some level, Ms. Rock has to assist the reader in understanding various parts of the brain (limbic, brain stem, pre-fontal lobe, etc.) as well as psychology (Freud and others). Much of the research that she is using is very recent, so many open issues remain. Despite these hurdles, she makes the book understandable to an interested layperson without dumbing it down too much.

I particularly enjoyed the way that she presented one approach to the study of dreams per chapter. Each chapter builds and explains the previous ones, as the research becomes more and more recent. Ms. Rock also introduces the reader to the personalities behind these cutting-edge scientists.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to better understand the dream stage (as well as consciousness generally). It is not, however, a self-help book. Other than a few tips on lucid dreaming, it is a 'why' and 'what' book, not a 'how' book.

Fascinating

This book is incredible. I couldn't put it down because I couldn't wait to find out what would be revealed in the coming pages. It's one of those books like "Chaos" or "Guns, Germs and Steel" that changes how you look at the world. What you discover about about how the brain works is amazing. For the first time, I sent an email out to a bunch of friends recommending a book. I did so because I thought so many of them would find it fascinating. On a sentence, paragraph and idea basis, it just flows. It's so alive , so easy to read, and SO INTERESTING.

About the Author
Richard Schaffer is a Professor Emeritus of Business Law in the Department of Finance of the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. He taught for twenty-five years in the areas of business law, international business transactions, and the law of international trade and investment, and founded the university's international business and business study abroad programs. Prior to academia, Professor Schaffer worked with the United Nations examining the relationship between corrupt practices, multinational corporations, and socio-economic development, and also served as rapporteur of UN working groups on international economic crime. He has consulted to business schools and industry trade groups, as well as businesses. Professor Schaffer received his J.D. from the University of Mississippi and his LL.M. from New York University.

Beverley Earle is a Professor and Chair of the Law, Taxation and Financial Planning Department, at Bentley University, Waltham, Massachusetts where she has been on the faculty since 1983. She teaches international business law at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as courses on the legal environment of business and law and society. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Boston University and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. Her law review articles have been published by universities including U.C. Berkeley, Northwestern, Cornell and University of Iowa (forthcoming) to mention a few. She has received numerous awards including the Academy of Legal Studies in Business Holmes-Cardozo award as well as Bentley's Scholar of the Year, Innovation in Teaching Award and Outstanding Scholarly Contribution Award. She is past President of the International Section of the ALSB. Since 2006, she has been an appointee to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers Hearing Committee on Attorney Discipline.

Filiberto Agusti is a partner in the international law firm of Steptoe & Johnson, LLP, where he has practiced law since 1978. He represents governments, multinational corporations, manufacturers, and investors in international arbitrations, lawsuits between multinational enterprises, and transactional negotiations. His work involves disputes and negotiations over international infrastructure, power generation facilities, cross-border corporate acquisitions, international joint ventures, and bankruptcy reorganizations. Mr. Agusti has authored articles for the Harvard Law Review and other legal publications, is a frequent speaker at professional seminars around the world, and regularly comments on legal issues on camera for Univision, Telemundo, and CNN en Espanol. Mr. Agusti was a law clerk to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and received his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was a senior editor of the Harvard Law Review.

This textbook is very well written.

I purchased this text for a course, and I actually enjoyed it. It is very easy to follow and not weirdly verbose. I don't keep all of my textbooks, but I will be keeping this one.

Very well written and easy to understand

Despite that the book is very expensive and a required text book for college, I think it is an excellent book. It is informative and easy to read. The author made the information interesting and kept me engaged. If I didn't need the money (from reselling it), I would keep it as a reference guide.

Riding the Helix Express (3d edn) helps you get on track with databases

Helix was likely the first client-server personal computer database when it was first introduced three decades ago. Computerized databases (mainframe) long predated the persona computer. Both Helix database environment and Riding the Helix Express have recently been updated to 2014. Author Harrington gives an introduction to the formal language of general databases and eases the novice into practical applications through the QSA Toolworks Helix software for Macintosh computers, giving many tips and hints that can save users and database designers hours and tears. For intermediate database users the book, now third edition, is a helpful reminder. Unlike word processors and spreadsheets, databases give the designer and user much freedom--to create custom tailored information management systems or to descent into confused digital babel. Even experienced database users can find time and frustration saving guides. Not only is the book a good guide for beginners and the experienced, symmetrically QSA Helix is an easily understandable database that make many, not all but many, common computer errors impossible.
