Often a little hard to follow if you're just reading it, I felt that this book should spoken out loud when reading. The rhythm flowed naturally and in a lyrical sort of way.

A few years ago I would have dismissed it as paranormal hokum

Being by nature an irreverent pragmatist, the Akashic field theory answers a lot of question for me personally. Now you have heard of it called by other names that include Quantum field, Yoga field, even God field, and many others, It is attainable by literally everyone with some minimal preliminary conditioning to attain the proper receptive state of your drain.
Remote viewing (scientifically validated many times over) study convinced me that it is valid, and it appears to be related to out of body experience and near death experience. [At this point I am beginning to lose my audience, I know, who are thinking, "oh no, not.another one of those paranormal charlatans!"], but it has also been said that this Akashic field theory offers the basis for group consciousness. Apparently several historical figures like Buddha, Jesus, and several supposed prophets were able to tap into it. Indeed, when you read Nostradamus' descriptions of future events, he sounds remarkably similar to some of the more skilled remote viewers describing something they are not familiar with.

Well, this is an extremely complicated subject. Dismiss it as nonsense if you will. Maybe I really really have escaped into psychosis. Laszlo's book does a credible job, but my only reason for giving him 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while it is a fairly lucid presentation, he occasionally relies on some rather ponderous equations that may be convincing to physicists, but are opaque to the rest of us. Finally, yes I have tried remote viewing; blew my ass away!

I really enjoy ALL of Dr. Laszlo's books and this one is particularly interesting to me. It certainly isn't "easy" reading material, but as with all his works, they make you think in ways that may be strange or certainly different from the "norm."

About the Author
Randall Billingsley is a finance professor at Virginia Tech and an award-winning teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate level. His research, consulting, and teaching focus on equity valuation, risk management and derivatives-based strategies, and regulatory finance. In 2006, he published a financial analysis book with the Wharton School. In addition, his research has been published in many professional journals, including the JOURNAL OF PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT, JOURNAL OF BANKING AND FINANCE, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL RESEARCH, and JOURNAL OF FUTURES MARKETS. As a consultant, Dr. Billingsley has served as an expert witness on equity valuation, capital of cost estimation, and economic damages analysis. His consulting clients include BellSouth Telecommunications, the United States Telecom Association, LECG, UBS, and others. A CFA charter holder, Dr. Billingsley has taught CFA examination review courses at multiple levels throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Lawrence J. Gitman is an emeritus professor of finance at San Diego State University. He received his BA from Purdue University, MBA from the University of Dayton, and PhD from the University of Cincinnati. A prolific author, Dr. Gitman has published more than 50 articles appearing in FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, the FINANCIAL REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL PLANNING, JOURNAL OF RISK AND INSURANCE, FINANCIAL SERVICES REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL RESEARCH, FINANCIAL PRACTICE AND EDUCATION, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION, and other scholarly publications. He has authored and coauthored numerous best-selling textbooks on various finance and business topics as well as investing. An active member of numerous professional organizations, Dr. Gitman is past president of the Academy of Financial Services, the San Diego Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, the Midwest Finance Association, and the FMA National Honor Society. In addition, he is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Dr. Gitman formerly served as a director on the CFP Board of Governors, as vice president of Financial Education for the Financial Management Association, and as director of the San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum. He has two grown children and lives with his wife in La Jolla, California, where he is an avid cyclist.

Michael D. Joehnk is an emeritus professor of finance at Arizona State University. In addition to his academic appointments at ASU, Dr. Joehnk spent a year as a visiting professor of finance at the University of Otago in New Zealand. He received his BA and PhD degrees from the University of Arizona and his MBA from Arizona State University. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), he served as a member of the Candidate Curriculum Committee and of the Council of Examiners of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts. He also served as a director of the Phoenix Society of Financial Analysts and as secretary-treasurer of the Western Finance Association and was elected to two terms as vice president of the Financial Management Association. Dr. Joehnk has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles, five popular books, and numerous monographs. In addition to co-authoring several books with Dr. Gitman, Dr. Joehnk wrote the highly successful paperback tradebook INVESTING FOR SAFETY'S SAKE. He also has served as editor and contributed to several other prominent books. His articles have appeared in FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, JOURNAL OF FINANCE, JOURNAL OF BANK RESEARCH, JOURNAL OF PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT, JOURNAL OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS, AAII JOURNAL, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL RESEARCH, BELL JOURNAL OF ECONOMICS, DAILY BOND BUYER, FINANCIAL PLANNER, and other publications. Fantastic book, all you need to get started and perfect your smoking.
This and Franklin Barbecue: A Meat-Smoking Manifesto should be all you need to smoke anything you can think of and do it well.

PS: Unlike some self-loving "I am the best, buy my books because they tell you how good I am" super BBQ champions, these two authors provide complete recipes and techniques that actually work and produce amazing results.

Awesome recipes, great for both novices and experts!

I highly recommend this book, whether you are new to smoking or have been at it for a while. Due to where I live I need to use an electric smoker, and all of the recipes I have tried so far have worked great and translate well to electric. The smoked deviled egg recipe is fantastic. I have been wanting to make smoked deviled eggs for a long time but couldn't think of a way to make it worth without overlooking the egg, and this book has the perfect solution. The brisket and pulled pork recipes are also solid. So many recipes to choose from, ans they range from basic to very creative. I highly recommend this book!

Excellent, Excellent Guide

Pretty new to smoking but I have been curing meats and vegetables for a while. Broke down and got a smoker over the 4th and bought this book given the stellar reviews. Those reviews were correct. This is an excellent all around guide to smoking and not just recipes. The machines, the woods, everything is in here. If anyone is thinking about getting into smoking I would advise them to buy this book first as you will learn a lot that can guide you in the decisions you will need to make.

I split a heritage pig with a friend and the first thing I made out of this book was the double cut loin chops. Easily the best chops my wife or I ever had (the pig had a lot to do with that). Pork belly and bacon next. I can see wearing this copy out and having to buy another down the road.

Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce (1842-1914) was an American editorialist, journalist, short story writer, fabulist, and satirist. He wrote the short story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and compiled a satirical lexicon, The Devil's Dictionary. His vehemence as a critic, his motto "Nothing matters", and the sardonic view of human nature that informed his work, all earned him the nickname "Bitter Bierce".

~~'...silence and fixity are signs of deference'~~

A poignant and powerful short story that delves deeply into the human psyche. One thing that fascinated me was the placement of the 'troops' for the hanging. The military organization doesn't appear to have changed in all of the years since this book was penned.

'Death is a dignitary' and in the 'military...silence and fixity are signs of deference'. The latter also resonates with me as retired military. I thought the writing was incredible. Transport yourself back to the Civil War and imagine the speech patterns and the differences in the diction.

Excellent short story and after the conclusion there are some interesting tidbits concerning the author.
