A Mixed Dream

This book does a few things really well and a lot of things wrong which is why I'm giving it two stars.

On the up side the author clearly did their homework on the WoW world. Lots of names and locations pop up in the story and I really liked that I could go "Oh, my character has been there!" or "The person gave my character a quest." So it's pretty easy to get into the world and get excited about the backdrops.

Now without going into major spoilers there were also lots of nice moments mixed in like people from all the races having to band together to fight a common threat (WoW loves that theme), getting to see a runestone in a story and the short but very cool appearance by Sylvanas Windrunner.

So while the feel of the WoW world is really well done the characters and the story aren't. Some of the most powerful people in WoW are taking on a single threat that they end up being able to do almost nothing about. Until the very end pretty much everyone is at best holding line or running away. Seriously, the heroes of this novel run away in the course of one story than Shaggy and Scooby do in the whole history of Scooby Doo.

It got to the point where the last 100 pages where just a slog and I was happy to just be done with the book so I could go read something else. "Lord of the Clans" this ain't.

Overall, save your time and money for something else.

Eh...so so

This book was alright; for me it was not as good as any of the Christie Golden books or the War of the Ancients trilogy, but it was about on par with Day of the Dragon/Night of the Dragon. Knaak's books seem very hit or miss to me.

In the end, this book really was just too long (and I am not usually one to whine about length; 500-600 pages or more does not bother me). The nightmares got repetitious and I found myself wanting to flip pages until we were finished with them. The same characters had the same nightmares over and over, and everyone's nightmares were very similar, and we had descriptions of them over and over. As a whole the book was too descriptive, which is a classic Knaak trap it seems. I was bored for the first 200 pages, then it picked up for a little while, and lost me again at the end. It really says something if the climax of the story isn't very exciting. The story could have been wrapped up much more quickly and a lot of extraneous material could have been eliminated. Knaak either needs to watch that tendency in himself or get himself a better editor.

I also didn't really connect with any of the new characters; Eranikus was way too whiney and irritating, and for some reason I couldn't sympathize with him. Others, like Gnarl, weren't around enough for you to get to know them (oh, and he really named the tree-like ancient Gnarl??, come on). Broll and Thura were better, but I still didn't feel all that connected to them. He tried to make Broll sympathetic with his lost daughter etc, but it didn't really do much for me - probably because he really beat it to death by mentioning it every chapter.

SMALL SPOILERS: There were several small details in the wrap up that drove me nuts because they were just way too convenient; Malfurion's and Tyrande's escape from the tree near the end where he just has some lightening strike it is just ridiculous - we have this nearly unbeatable foe, but that is all it takes to get him to drop them? I also found it way too tidy that the the branch was just sitting next to the ax waiting to be used; the Nightmare Lord was really that stupid?

On a more widespread note, he went way over the top with his heroes this time. He has a tendency to make his characters a bit too larger than life (Krasus usually), but Malfurion in this one just went over the top. He's suddenly more powerful than the Dragon Aspects and can do anything at all he sets his mind too, controlling forces all over the world while mentally communicating with friends and rescuing people...yes it is a fantasy book, but this was too much even for fantasy. SPOILER: Likewise, why didn't we get some explanation for Xavius' actions; yes, he's evil, but that is all we get. Why was he hooking up with a "new" patron, and setting out on this new path toward evil. Does he think it will bring him power? Is he out for revenge on Malfurion? Is he being manipulated? All three? We don't know. Knaak spends pages and pages describing essentially the same nightmares over and over, but doesn't devote a single paragraph to explaining why Xavius is doing what he is doing. He somewhat explains how, but not why. I would personally have been happier to see more of that and less of the overly descriptive nightmares.

I did, for whatever reason, like the segment where we see Sylvanas' nightmares; they were much more unique and tailored to the character than the other nightmares and it was interesting to see what still frightens her, which was nice since she tends to be a strong and enigmatic character. If all the nightmares had been utilized in this way to show us the inner thoughts and fears of characters it would have been a lot more interesting, I think. I liked the plot and the story as a whole, I just didn't like the details of it or the writing style utilized, and I felt the characters fell flat, even classic ones like Malfurion and Tyrande. I did like getting to "know" Ysera better, but I wish he would have fleshed out the green dragon flight with a better character than Eranikus. His story for Erankius had a lot of potential, the execution just fell flat.

Essentially this book was a lot longer than it had to be, and took a long time to ramp up and was very anti-climactic and a little too easy to predict. He used too many "easy" outs for the characters and I spent more time thinking "oh really, that really happened that way" than "wow, that was epic" and certainly more than "what will happen next". I may read this again someday to see if I am being unfair, but that will be a while from now. This definitely was not my favorite.

Disappointed

The first few pages of the book enthralled me, but as I read on the book lost my interest. The battle scenes got repetitive quick, had too little detail about the landscape and the environment, and aside from a few minor emotional character developments (like Shandris Feathermoon giving a daughter-like hug to Tyrande), there wasn't much to pull me into the book. I didn't feel like I *wanted* to finish the story.

Sometimes there was so little detail about the character's whereabouts that I became confused about their location. Example: I would begin a new chapter, converge upon a conversation between the characters, only to be quickly confused and wonder where they are and how they got there. I felt like the characters were pushed through the book. The characters themselves seemed too bland, without much substance.

I'm a guy who finishes what he starts most of the time. If I start a book, even if it sucks, I will finish it. Unfortunately, this is one of the few books that I did not finish. I just didn't grapple me into the story. In fact, it did more than that; it made me bored and pushed me away.

I don't like putting down writers because I think that it takes a lot of time, patience, and effort to write any book, but I have to be honest. This book wasn't very good. I wish Blizzard would employ another writer in Richard Knaak's stead, because I really wanted to like this book but I didn't. With what I did read, for the most part, I had to force myself through.

"Big Book"Stories Left Out of the 4th, 3rd, 2nd, & 1st Eds.

This book is a collection of 56 stories which were found in either the multilith [1938], 1st [1939], 2nd[1955], or 3rd [1976] editions of Alcoholics Anonymous, aka "The Big Book," but are not contained in the 4th [2001] edition.

The multilith/typed version of the Big Book [available from GSO upon request] contained 20 stories from the 1938 membership of less than 80. One story, "Ace Full - Seven Eleven", did not make it from the Multilith edition to the 1st edition. One 1st edition story, "Lone Endeavor", did not make it into the second printing of the 1st edition. Nineteen of the original multilith stories were included in the 1st edition, and ten more stories were added to the multilith collection for the 1st edition, 1st printing, since the Big Book was skimpy in contents, despite being printed on extra thick paper, and was packaged and priced as a 1939 coffee-table book @ $3.50, to cover a printing cost of 35 cents. [The minimum wage in 1939 was 25� per hour = 14 hours of labor needed to purchase a copy of the Big Book. The equivalent 2004 price for the Big Book would be $70!]

Forty-six [Bill Wilson's story is not included in this count of personal stories; Bob Smith's story is counted, under two titles] of these stories were published in either the 1st or 2nd editions. Bill Wilson restructured the 1st edition in 1955. Only two stories from the 1st edition were retained intact. Three were edited, one of which was retitled. Two stories were completely rewritten, and 30 new stories were added to the 2nd edition for a total of 38 stories. The 1st edition, first printing, had 30 stories. The 1st and 2nd editions of the Big Book and the stories contained therein are in the Public Domain, i.e. not subject to copyright restrictions, since neither the 1st or 2nd edition Copyrights were renewed at the end of their original term.

The 3rd edition contained only 10 additional stories not found in the 2nd edition. Twelve of the stories in the 3rd edition were credited to The A.A. Grapevine, Inc., a personal newsletter originated by Bill Wilson to communicate directly to the membership. [This data crediting The A.A. Grapevine, Inc was omitted from the later printings of the 3rd edition.] Five of the stories in the 4th edition are credited to The A.A. Grapevine, Inc.

Almost all of the stories which were dropped from the 1st & 2nd editions were omitted due to the authors' relapses. Cultural changes is given as the predominant rationale for deletions from the 3rd edition and for inclusion of new stories in the 4th edition. A relapse did not cause a story to be dropped from the 4th Edition, "Women Suffer Too." Amazing Second Book

I thoroughly enjoyed the second book in the Descendants series by Mayandree Michel. I do not read many books that are geared more towards young adult however I had to read this inventive story about Greek demigods. Her creative and descriptive worlds makes it easy to lose yourself in the story and her characters keep you enthralled. Be sure to read her first book Betrayal first as it is a continuing story.

empathetic...but disappointed

Let me start by pointing out that this author has been through the wringer, and I'm very sorry for that. From what I understand someone released her book without her consent before it was published, and she had to re-write. I cannot imagine how devastating that would be.

I LOVED the first book in this series, and was enchanted. I could NOT WAIT for the second book in the series. Now that it's here, I've read it.

I think it's not "dirty" as some other reviewers have accused, but it is sexually charged. To my untrained eye, there was no sexual activity at all, outside of a little "necking", which was termed as such. I don't think it was astonishing, although I wouldn't want a young teen reading this. (it could be argued though that it is an accurate depiction of a teen boy's thoughts)

I bet her first version of this book was amazing. However as much as I am a fan, I was disappointed in this book. I liked Victor being developed further, whether or not I agreed with the way the love triangle was developed. However, I didn't really like the course this book ended up taking. I really really really want to give this book a high rating. I would hate to make this already overwhelmed author feel bad.

However, there were GLARING grammatical errors. I felt that it brought the quality of the book down substantially. The errors distracted me from my reading to the point I had to re-read the sentence a few times to understand what had happened. I also felt a little lost in some areas, as I felt that the author rushed. I'm sure it is due to the re-writing, and I'm sure that affected her end result.

So, although I am very empathetic toward the author and her plight, I cannot give this book a great review. That saddens me, and maybe there will be some editing changes yet? Maybe I got a hold of an early version of the book? So sadly, I can only give this book 3 stars.

Or maybe I thought it is lacking because I don't know what is coming in book #3? *crossing my fingers* (it doesn't explain the editing though)

Repetative

I like this book it takes a lot for me not to finish one but dear Lord does Delia drive me insane. I feel like this is important for anyone to know but 70% of the book consists of the love squares? Lust and love for the one they want. It is exhausting. Barely anything happens in this book. *the rest of this is very minor undetailed spoilers it wont ruin the book for you but if your picky continue at your own ridk* Delia is so freaking selfish as an empress. She makes decisions emotionally and I feel like I would punch her in the face she was my empress. She says that its not fair for the gods to control her life but its not like she isn't attracted to her betrothed... if she doesn't make the right decision her whole freaking empire could be wiped out but she doesn't care. I cant even believe this is the protagonist of the book. I am getting through this book relatively fast but geese this book is full of hotheaded selfish buttheads.

The book is great, I am not going to lie. It has a lot of information and offers a great Ddx page in the index that can help out any dentist. The book is clear in its definitions of the diseases, treatment and what to look for radiographically, histologically and clinically. I give it two stars because the publisher doesn't have the kindle version edited to be in page number form like some other kindle books do. This is necessary for a book of this type in order to flip back and forth from index to disease. Please, this is an electronic copy, I should be able to click on the chapters, click on the disease and have it take me straight there. I shouldn't have to hunt it down. And don't bother searching for the terms. It will link you even to the reference pages and you will have to hunt down search by search to get what you want. Stick with the paper copy. And what is the purpose of zooming in on the photo if it just blurs it anyway? Lazy, lazy kindle transfer.

One of the finest oral pathology textbooks for all dental specialties

"Neville and Damm", as it is affectionately called, is one the best (if not the best) all around textbook in oral pathology available. This latest edition contains numerous updates in this ever expanding field and is probably owned by every oral pathologist, as well as many MD/DO pathologists, and is included in many dental school oral pathology curricula. Although oral pathologists typically study and source more advanced texts for certain complicated cases, they always have this handy. I would recommend this textbook to dental students, dental residents, any residents of pathology, and any clinicians typically dealing with oral and maxillofacial disease. The collection of clinical pictures, recommended treatments, and the differential diagnoses in the appendix, combined with the detailed writings contained therein, make this an excellent textbook.

Not a bad adaptation at all

I was skeptical about how well would these complex songs be transcribed to a book and worried if they would cut out a lot of instrumental parts (like most soundtrack songbooks). However, I was pleasantly surprised that the book did the soundtrack justice. The main songs are there along with a lot of the instrumental breaks which definitely made me happy. I would have given 5 stars if the bass part was slightly more full and if they hadn't cut a lot of good parts from Epilogue as well.

Overall, great soundtrack songbook. Happy to have it my collection.

and fell in love with it

Saw the movie with my wife, and fell in love with it. We both appreciate a great musical and try to get to live theater when we can.

So loving the movie and playing piano, this was a natural purchase. I bought the print version that came in the mail.

I would describe my piano skills as intermediate, and this book hits my experience level perfectly. There's a few songs you can sit down and immediately begin playing in a recognizable way. Other songs take some practice. But the arrangements are well done for most of this book. Many times I'll buy a book and find only 2-3 songs that are reasonable enjoyable on piano. Here the majority of songs are a lot of fun.

Not a good book for a health economics course - students will surmise that health economics is just too difficult

The book covers quite a bit of ground in health economics. The chapters mix theory and reporting of recent empirical studies. Many important concepts and details are covered.

As an introduction to health economics, used for example for an MHA or MBA course, it is just too difficult for most students. Unless the student has just had a micro course they will struggle. Even so, some new charts and concepts not typically in an intro micro course will prove difficult. Some concepts, particularly graphs, are poorly explained.

Perhaps the worst part is that beyond the first few chapters the homework becomes almost impossible for students to do on the basis of the material provided in the text content. Some exam questions in the testbank just have wrong or impossible to find answers. For example, the text mentions one noteworthy study by two economists but does not give precise results data. One of the test questions asks about the precise results data. After poring over the chapter in vain for the answer, a student finally mentioned that he was able to find the data --- in the original journal article available through Pubmed. Do the professors expect students to find answers by looking up and reading all articles mentioned, referenced, or summarized? Absurd and poor quality control. A student could waste an hour searching in vain the text for that answer.

I do not recommend professors using this book Use Santerre et al. Use the new Bhattacharya book. Etc.

Decent for a policy course, a bit lacking for an Econs course

We're using this book for an upper-div Economics course, and I felt the text was a bit too high-level (as someone else mentioned) for use in an Econs course, in the sense that it's light on mathematical application and heavier on verbosity. The book seems to try to appeal to both those studying policy, while at the same time trying to appeal to those studying Economics, and I don't personally like the style. The book does assume a little basic familiarity with economists' tools and shows models, but for the most part I felt that it was just much too high-level and verbose and targeted more toward those studying the "policyer"-side of things. The result is that as someone studying Economics, I find myself a little put off by the super brief treatment of applying models and the paragraphs upon paragraphs of text. On the other side, I could see how those without much/any knowledge of economics could become confused, although I think they do a decent job of covering the basics concisely from the ground up without weighing down the text too much.

I will say that it does discuss relevant topics, and I've learned a lot of things I never knew, and am able to think about the economic side of health care in ways I never did before. I think the book could be great under the right circumstances. But chances are if you're using this for an upper-division Economics course, the problems you will solve for homework and on exams will likely cover the topics in a more advanced fashion, and the book doesn't provide enough mathematical examples and tools for that. So pray your professor distributes slides or lecture notes....mine doesn't.

This book is written at a very high level and requires extensive knowledge of economics to understand. Make sure if your professor is using this they are thorough or you will get lost.

I couldn't read this book fast enough. This series had started of smoldering and is just gets hotter as it goes!!! Cannot wait for the sixth installment of this series!!! The author has a way with words and keeps you wanting more and more!! If you are looking for a fast paced,sex filled, hot and heavy series, then look no further!!!

Talk About a Cliff Hanger!!!!!

Series story line was a great read. I like short action packed stories that are a quick read like this one. Then you move on to the next book in the series and continue on. BUT....this series has not been completed by the author and it's been a year since her last installment to this series .....I call BullSh## on these type of writers!!! Authors shouldn't be allowed to offer a series until they complete the whole package. Then they can still release them over a predetermined length of time, not just stop the series with zero explanation and no ending....Not Cool and certainly not Professional.

This is the first comprehensive account of Azerbaijan's rich and tumultuous history up to the present time. The Azerbaijan Republic is situated where ancient Media once stood, a territory invaded and influenced by Persian king Cyrus the Great, Alexander of Macedonia, and Pompey's Roman legions. Since the early nineteenth century its Muslim Turkish people have been ruled by Russia, first by the imperial tsars and then by the Soviet regime. In 1990, two centuries of harsh domination culminated in Black January when Soviet troops opened fire on the civilian population of Baku. The following year, Azerbaijan declared its independence and began rebuilding its political and economic system. Former Communists and opposition leaders continue to struggle for dominance. Audrey L. Altstadt makes use of both Russian-language and Azerbaijani Turkish-language newspapers, journals, and scholarly publications. Much of this material has never been used in any other Western studies. Altstadt's original research adds the Azerbaijani perspective on the two-century relationship between Russia and Azerbaijan. She identifies key issues and actors and documents a pattern of continual struggle against colonial rule from the initial conquest to the political movements of the late twentieth century. Russian domination has encompassed more than the military, political, and economic spheres. There have also been harsh restrictions on cultural expression, including killing leading intellectuals and falsifying historical facts. However, Azerbaijani Turks continue to thwart Russian control by protecting their rich and ancient heritage through native-language education and the arts. As Altstadt writes, "the AzerbaijaniTurks use the antiquity of their history, language, and literature as a weapon of self-defense, as proof they need no tutelage in self-government, economic management, education, or literature".

About the Author
Audrey L. Altstadt received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and has received postdoctoral fellowships from the Russian Research Center at Harvard University and the George F. Kennan Institute of Advanced Russian Studies. She conducted research in Baku, Azerbaijan, during the 1980–81 and 1984–85 and was the first American to gain access to the Azerbaijan State Historical Archives. She is currently a member of the history department at the University of Masschusetts at Amherst.

Perfect storytelling of the Azerbaijani Turks

Perfect storytelling of the Azerbaijani Turks, a growing nation of 50 million, a small portion of which was successful in restoring its independence from Soviet Union. Unlucky with its location, Republic of Azerbaijan is pretty much harassed by its northern and southern neighbors, who use its western neighbor Armenia against it. Seminal work. Highly recommended!

The Identity of the Azerbaijani Turks

The central theme of Azerbaijani Turks' political life is their relationship with the Russians. In "The Azerbaijani Turks: Power and Identity under Russian Rule," the author examines this theme through the study of Imperial and Soviet Russian central government policies and the Azerbaijani Turks' responses to them.

The origins of the Azerbaijani Turks--the correct name of the ethnic citizens of Azerbaijan--are covered here only briefly. Using Russian and Azerbaijani Turk contemporary sources that provide a bounty of relevant information, the main focus of the book is from the nineteenth century onwards, from the time of the Russian conquest to the time of its publication in 1992.

Reacting first against heavy-handed Russian military rule and later the institutionalized racism of Tsarist colonial administration, the author elucidates on the creation of an Azerbaijani Turk identity by ethnic elites keen to maintain that identity as a cultural bulwark against their Slavic overlords. Extensive study is dedicated to the brief-lived Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the demographically devastating first decades of communist rule. "The Azerbaijani Turks" is a groundbreaking work for those who study this fascinating South Caucasus nation.

It is also deeply illuminating on the reasons why Azerbaijan has taken pains to distance itself from the Russians in the post-Soviet era. Altstadt's work also sheds light on the Nagorny-Karabagh conflict from the Azerbaijani side, laying its origins at the feet of Leninist nationalities and Soviet economic policies.

Although it could most definitely use a timely update this is a well-written, if weighty, history of Azerbaijan and its people. It is as unique by reason of the author's efforts as much as it is by being (probably, maybe?) the only book in English to cover the topic.

The Azerbaijani Turks: Power and Identity Under Russian Rule

The authors did a great job in researching a lot of historical documents, however what seemed obvious to me is that they had decided to write about such a delicate subject as Azerbaijan's history without researching sources probably other than those available in the West, in Russia and provided by Azeris themselves, who did not have that traditions of historiography, as Armenians and Georgians for instance have. As they acknowledge in the book, Aztrbaijan is a relatively new formation in the history, which in many cases explains the nature of the Soviet era Azeri interpretation of the history, which among others aimed to justify Azerbaijan's geopolitical position, create a kind of history, which would match with the neighboring countries with really " old" histories.
That is why heavy influence by Azerbaijani sources does not help the authors much to fairly present the history of Azerbaijan (both past and present) and especially its relationship with Armenia and Armenians. In the bibliography I noticed 1-2 Armenian sources among hundreds that they used. There are lots of Armenian ancient sources (Armenain ancient historian Knorenatsi, for example) that could be used. Presentation of events in Sumgait and Baku seem also very biased and heavily influenced by Azeri official position. I follow Azeri media for the last 7 years and the identity of your position with the Azeris was unfavorably striking.
Anyway, I would like to thank them for the interest in the region. I just wish they had a more thorough analysis of the available historical data and more balanced approach in presenting their thoughts.
