Delivers what it promises

Carl McColman states in the beginning of this book that he is introducing the reader to Wicca, Druidry, and shamanism. He skillfilly delivers on his promise with a clear introduction to the most prominent forms of Paganism. This book would help in gaining direction into which path is for you.

It is not Pagan 101 or a spell book. If you are looking for a quick magical fix for a problem, you won't find it here. This book is for someone who knows absolutely nothing or very little about Paganism. For that reason, I think this would be a good book for a Pagan to give an open-minded friend or loved one who is concerned about their beliefs.

He introduces the beginner to concepts such as the wheel of the year, magic, and reincarnation. He has a friendly, easy-to-read writing style.

I rated it four stars instead of five because I felt the entire work was too heavily influenced by Wiccan belief such as the Rede and the God being the consort of the Goddess even when he wasn't specifically speaking of Wicca.

This is a surprisingly good introduction to many pagan tenants. However, it's rather a condensed version, so there is not much depth in any particular subject. A good primer, and one I'll give Mom so she understands more about my path.

Don't dismiss this "Idiot's Guide"!

This book has been my favorite so far on paganism. I find that a lot of "New Age" books on pagan religions are all sparkle and razzle dazzle, attempting to sell entertainment or a hobby and not information or depth. The author of Idiots Guide writes with wit and personality while giving an abundant amount of information to help you define paganism in your own way. It's easily understood and avoids coming off as ostentatious or superficial. It's a great starting point for anyone wanting to find their pagan path.

Bower's vision for harmonious and profitable business structure

Bower's resume includes acting as leader of the esteemed consulting firm Mckinsey & Co. for 17 years. He shares an business model ideal based on a leadership structure rather than a pure authority sturcture. Appoaching this ideal, a business would flourish from the increased exercise of initiative, expression of opinions and even disagreement.

He challenges, "People don't need better bosses, they need better leaders," and "What if people truly liked their work?"

This book gives many imaginative examples of how this vision could be accomplished. There is no current real business example that we can look to. He has set the bar high... sort of an ideal, like a virtue, where the striving never ends. He does point out hints of this effort in some of today's businesses though.

From his life experience and research, he delineates fourteen qualities an ideal leader would have. They include trustworthiness, fairness, unassuming behavior and the willingness to listen.

This is a great book if you are not 100 percent happy with your company's health, and are looking for a possible positive ideological shift in becoming more leadership oriented and upgrading your mission statement.

A worth while book if you still aren't convinced

There is no arguing about the value of leadership versus "command and control" management. If you have read General Electric's annual reports over the past decade, you can probably skip this book. Jack Welch has been on a leadership crusade for years at General Electric, and results speak for themselves. But even at GE,and certainly elsewhere in corporate America, there are significant pockets of "command and control" managers and CEOs, who go through the "leadership" motions, but prefer a good old fashioned "I'm the boss", "do-as-you're-told" approach. Why? As Martha Peak explained in Management Review ("Mission Control", Management Review, April 1996), "the people now at the top got there because they do their best in a command-and-control environment". The "successful" CEOs are where they are today because "command and control" did so well under the old model. Which brings me to a suggestion for the author. "Change" should be on the top of his list of 14 qualities of true leaders. Not just the ability to change, but willingness to seek out change and use it as a tool. Jack Welch has been successful at GE not because he has kept his "neutron Jack" image throughout his tenure, but because he has shown a willingness (or rather, a passion) to change. I once had a "command and control" manager who said "Sure you're empowered, as long as you stay within the rules". I would restate that in the context of leadership as "You're encouraged to break the rules and change them to be more productive and better at everything you do". The book is worth reading, especially if you're not yet convinced that we need more leaders and fewer managers. But don't believe that without adding "change" to the "14 qualities" it will become reality.

Great book on a philosophy and experience of a leader

The Will to Lead greatest benefit is that it is a first person account of a proven business leader in a dynamic business. What is surprising about the book is that it is very non-consulting-ease even through the author is a former Managing Partner from McKinsey & Co. The first person account and stories contain mulitple nuggets of what it takes to be a real leader. You may have to wade through a few stories that seem a bit self serving of the author. However, these are only the recollections of a lifetime of leadership so they are certainly allowable. Other books on leadership (Kotter et al) provide a more scientific view, however Bower's been there and this is what its like approach gives the book credibility and value

Kim Gowdy's Freedom Fighters and Truth Tellers is a must read for all of us who have experienced pain and the mess that life can drag us through! Kim took her journey through pain and suffering and turned it into an amazing resource for the rest of us!

Trailblazer of Truth

The world needs more people like Kim Gowdy. She’s a giver, a trailblazer, and—as you’ll soon discover—she’s also a Freedom Fighter and Truth Teller.

You probably understand the giver part. She’s never short on dishing out sincere compliments and strategic prayers offered on your behalf.

The trailblazer part?

She’s willing to jump in and cut a path of adventure and risk. She’s also made it a daily habit to truly live. The alternative doesn’t sound too appealing and yet so many choose slow death, rather than abundant life.

But now for the Freedom Fighter part.

Very informative and helpful book!

Negative thoughts always, always going to be in the head, the author CK Murray did a great job in this book, explaining how your brain receipts more bad beliefs and feelings, etc. This book is very good, I didn't know much about mind shift in humans, but there are many ways to empty all that negativity and problems that we think we are ourselves and we get hurt unknowingly.

All relevant topics have been covered. In fact, this is a more comprehensive book than Essentials of Microbiology for Dental Students published by OUP which I own.

I find myself trying to say that the book goes into too much depth but if you were to adhere strictly to the BDS curriculum you would find a place for the entire contents, i.e. there is every chance that any part of this book could appear in a BDS exam. In addition, the book touches on other areas outwith microbiology – oral medicine, immunology, etc. This is a very good feature as it widens the readers’ perspective.

After comparing this book to the Oxford equivalent I would certainly recommend the Churchill-Livingston version. Why? Because of the assessments at the end of chapters, the more comprehensive index and the inclusion of a glossary. In addition, although the content is similar in both books, the Churchill-Livingston version is not only more detailed, it has been laid out in shorter chapters which is better for revision.

Lecturers need to know that this is a better book than the Oxford equivalent because their reading list recommendation, in my view, is what influences students most when buying a book when they are similarly priced.

This text covers clinically-related material featured in Bagg, et al. and the more basic science covered in Marsh and Martin, two texts which we have always recommend. Jack "King" Kirby's comics career began in 1937 and continued for nearly six decades. After his fruitful collaboration with Joe Simon ended in the late 1950s, Kirby joined Marvel Comics, where the first issue of Fantastic Four cemented his reputation as comics' preeminent creator. A slew of famous titles followed that elevated Kirby to legendary status, including Incredible Hulk, Avengers and X-Men. Kirby returned to DC in 1971 with his classic "Fourth World Trilogy," which was followed by THE DEMON, KAMANDI and OMAC. Kirby continued working and innovating in comics until his death in 1994.

DC has unearthed one of KIRBY's finest efforts!

I still remember the day I was flipping through old Warren magazine boxes in a used book store and happened to stumble across a copy of Hampshire Distribution's (also known as DC) little known gem, IN THE DAYS OF THE MOB. It was black and white in magazine format with a cool pull out poster of public enemy #1 - John Dillinger still intact! It only cost me a buck and I was in heaven! One could certainly tell this must have been a labor of love for Jack Kirby as the passion certainly shined through each page of the oversize issue. And say what you like about the infamous inker, Vincent Colletta certainly knocked a home run on this little number. In fact, I put this one shot along side of the KING of comics best work! And who couldn't love the bizarre narrator of HELL itself, Warren Fry? What a brilliant supernatural slant on the mobster world.

Kirby was obsessed with the crime underworld growing up in New York City in the 30s where things were happening right in his backyard. This was to be one of the very first ventures after leaving Marvel for DC but the publisher had already dropped the title before the first issue even hit the stands. As with Hampshire's other Kirby outing, SPIRITWORLD, this proved the publisher was only "going through the motions" to lure Kirby over to their side.

Although the first issue did see the light of day on newsstands hidden along the mags, the second issue never did in this format only briefly making an appearance in fanzines or small digests here and there. It is great to finally see these two series getting a respectable release. As the proud owner of one of the original pages of comic art from the first MOB issue, I wondered if they would actually print the book without the ink wash as it is on the original art. It was only in production that a tone wash would be added for a great impact. Although the book differs in color of wash, originally released in a gray wash rather than the brown color in this edition, it by no means takes away from this wonderful edition. I'm just happy you guys finally released this forgotten high point from the most prolific comic creator in the last century. Top notch stuff and I salute you!

I'm a Kirby fanatic and THIS is my all-time favorite Kirby!

As much as I love Kirby's Fantastic Four and Thor and other super-hero comics, and as much as I love his monster comics and his westerns, In The Days Of The Mob is my all-time favorite Kirby. It's a tragedy that Carmine Infantino cancelled the magazine without giving it a chance. But Infantino knew if Kirby was a smash success, Kirby might end up with Infantino's job.

I take issue with the product blurb at the top of this Amazon page, stating "... IN THE DAYS OF THE MOB, which featured on stories of organized crime in the 1930s in the style of the TV series "The Untouchables" and "The Godfather" movies." Whoever wrote the blurb doesn't know that In The Days Of The Mob was published a year before the Godfather was released, so, NO, this Kirby masterpiece is NOT in the style of the Godfather. Nor is it in the style of The Untouchables. This is in the style of Jack Kirby, baby! Pure Kirby!

Proves Jack Kirby wasn't just "The King" of superheroes but of all comic book genres

When the first issue of In the Days of the Mob premiered in 1971, Jack Kirby had already achieved legendary status in comics with the creation of Captain America, The Sandman, The Newsboy Legion, Challengers of the Unknown, the Fantastic Four, Thor, the Avengers, and even the romance genre. He left Marvel in 1970 to produce titles for their dread rivals DC. Shortly thereafter, Kirby created two black & white magazines: Spirit World and the above mentioned Mob. Both only lasted one issue. In 2012, DC collected the rare, lone issue of Spirit World along with four stories intended for the unpublished second issue in one volume. Now they've done something similar with In the Days of the Mob.

The handsome hardcover includes the entire first issue, complete with the text pieces and Sergio Aragon�s cartoons plus the five comic stories intended for the second issue. In his introduction, John Morrow, editor of The Jack Kirby Collector, relates the tribulations surrounding the second issue. Some of the pages were incomplete or only grainy photocopies existed. Morrow and his team managed to complete the pages with existing Kirby collages and clean up the copies. Ultimately, the volume included the two rarely seen and three never-before-published Kirby tales.

Unlike most of his work during the era, In the Days of the Mob delivers some of the most realistic and non-bombastic work of Kirby's career combined with his always magnificent storytelling. Several of the effective tales rank high among the annuals of crime comics including "Ma's Boys," "Bullets for Big Al," "A Room for Kid Twist," and especially "The Ride!" With the last story, Kirby crafts a disturbing virtuoso of crime fiction with no blood and little violence.

The fantastic In the Days of the Mob reminds that Jack Kirby wasn't just "The King" of superheroes but of all comic book genres.

The story is nice, short but nice

Drama is everywhere! This is the real story about an author and her model cover.
Sawyer sees Caleb at the gym and decides to approach him with a deal: to be the model of her next book cover. He accepts and they start their professional relationship.
Sawyer is not happy with her life at home, she feels the lack of love from her boyfriend and with the moves Caleb is making on her she feels confused. Liam, her boyfriend is spending too much time at work, not giving her the attention they both need and when he breaks a promise she decides that it's over!

The Blurb interested me and the story is nice, short but nice. I couldn't relate the title of the book with the story itself tho. I hope we will get more of these characters, as I feel there's more about them, but since the #2 book of the series is about Liam I'm not so sure.

I wonder what's up with authors finishing their books at 64% of the file and dump there 36% of all their other books... if you intended to write a short story just make it like it is, so the reader gets what's expected. I really don't like the word "deceived" but that's somehow how I've been feeling lately...

A fun read about models and authors and those that love them.

We start off this book with an author at a photoshoot, sitting behind a computer, watching proofs of a model she found come up on the screen as the photographer takes the photos. What reaction does the author have in regards to watching these images come up? When the shoot is done, why does the author not notice that they are finished? What is she doing? When the model, Caleb follows her after the shoot, what happens? Liam is her boyfriend of over a year. He works late, cancels on dates with her all the time. What is he thinking and feeling? What is Sawyer thinking and feeling? I know how I would feel if my boyfriend seemed more interested in work than being home with me or going out with me. I can imagine the pain and loneliness she is feeling. Caleb tries to tell her certain things from the first time he works for/with her. What things does he tell her? Is he right or wrong about those things? When Liam tells Sawyer he will come to an after party from a book signing, and he doesn't show up yet again, or contact her until over 30 minutes after he was supposed to be there, what does Sawyer do? Who finds her? What happens? You're going to have to read and find out. It was a fun read.

5 AMAZINGLY HOT STARS!!

Good lord Behind the Computer was absolutely AMAZING!! HOME RUN F.L. Jacob HOME RUN!!

This book was unlike any book I've read before but have been craving! Behind the Computer was a quick fun, HOT read that I didn't want to end.

Sawyer James is a best-selling indie author who just so happens to run into Caleb at the gym. As soon as she sees him she know that she HAS to have him as her cover model for her next book.

Little does Sawyer know that the chemistry with Caleb will be OFF the charts. However there is a little issue, Liam, Sawyer's long-term live in workaholic boyfriend.

Can Sawyer and Caleb deny the attraction and the jealousy when Caleb is contracted to work with other indie authors?

I will say if you're looking for a quick hot read and a story that has not been told before then Behind the Computer will be right up your alley. You will not be disappointed!
