Ebenhack is also a member of Turtle Homes Rescue and the Turtle and Tortoise preservation group and she is the President of the Central Florida Wildlife Center. She is also author of the widely acclaimed book Health Care and Rehabilitation of Turtles and Tortoises published in 2012.

Great Information!!

Amanda Ebenhack is one of the best and most informative people on red foot tortoise out there. Her writing is easy to follow and has great info to raise and keep red foots healthy, a must have for all owners. Also her book on red foots and yellow foots written a few years ago in a great reference too!

Good book with good tips on every topic regarding the ever-loved redfoot. I was trying to learn as much as possible in a short time due to 2 redfoots needing a lot of help. This is a good book to have in my collection. I have referred back to it more than once. Highly recommend.

About the Author
Martin Puchner is the Byron and Anita Wien Professor of Drama and of English and Comparative Literature at Harvard University. He is the author of The Drama of Ideas: Platonic Provocations in Theater and Philosophy (2010), Poetry of the Revolution: Marx, Manifestos, and the Avant-Gardes (2006), and Stage Fright: Modernism, Anti-Theatricality, and Drama (2002). His edited books and introductions include Six Plays by Henrik Ibsen (2003), Lionel Abel's Tragedy and Metatheatre (2003), The Communist Manifesto and Other Writings (2005), and Modern Drama: Critical Concepts (2007). He is also co-editor of Against Theatre: Creative Destructions on the Modernist Stage (2006), The Norton Anthology of World Literature, Third Edition (2012), and The Norton Anthology of Western Literature, Ninth Edition (2014).

Suzanne Conklin Akbari is Professor of English and Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. Her books include Seeing Through the Veil: Optical Theory and Medieval Allegory (2004) and Idols in the East: European Representations of Islam and the Orient, 1100–1450 (2009). Among her edited volumes are Marco Polo and the Encounter of East and West (2008), co-edited with Amilcare Iannucci, and the Oxford Handbook to Chaucer (2013).

Barbara Fuchs is Professor of Spanish and English at UCLA, where she also directs the Center for Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Studies and the William A. Clark Memorial Library. She is the author of Mimesis and Empire: The New World, Islam, and the Construction of European Identities (2001), Passing for Spain: Cervantes and the Fictions of Identity (2003), Romance (2004), and Exotic Nation: Maurophilia and the Construction of Early Modern Spain (2009). She is also a co-editor, with Aaron Ilika, of two captivity plays by Miguel de Cervantes: The Bagnios of Algiers and The Great Sultana (2009).

Caroline Levine is Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has written two books: The Serious Pleasures of Suspense: Victorian Realism and Narrative Doubt (2003) and Provoking Democracy: Why We Need the Arts (2007). She is co-director of the Andrew Mellon World Literature(s) Workshop at the University of Wisconsin.

Pericles Lewis is the Founding President and Professor of Humanities at the Yale-NUS College in Singapore. He is the author of three books―Modernism, Nationalism, and the Novel (2000), The Cambridge Introduction to Modernism (2007), and Religious Experience and the Modernist Novel (2010)―and editor of The Cambridge Companion to European Modernism (2011). Emily Wilson is Associate Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Get The 8th Instead

I had to use this anthology in a course when Norton changed editions (from 8th to 9th). The previous edition (the 8th) is actually a bit superior, so I would recommend it over this one. This edition (the 9th) has much of the same material, so it still is quite worthwhile, but some of the changes were not improvements. In particular, this edition does not include Aristotle, Petronius, Lucian, the fabliaux section, the Medieval women section, and the carpe diem poetry section. Also, the introductions and overviews were generally better in the 8th as they were more informative and thorough. Many of the introductions in the 9th seem overly concerned with the influence of Islam on European culture, an important topic to be sure but likely not as important as to merit the space devoted to it, as space in an anthology is always precious. Furthermore, some of the additions were odd such as including Ferdowsi (since I was teaching a European literature course, material from the Middle East and Asia was not tremendously helpful). Good additions include Lazarillo de Tormes and some fables by Aesop, but, overall, I would recommend getting the 8th edition if you have an option.

Not An Improvement

I absolutely agree with Fred Wright.
These revised eds ought to be obliged to say what they've left out, as well as what they've added. The risk with this sort of venture is that a sort of competitiveness comes in: editing these vols is very prestigious (and lucrative), and the new eds start competing with the older ones, adding more recondite stuff, less accessible translations (check out the new Gilgamesh), and bossy little "clusters" (as if teachers were incapable of arranging their own courses), while ditching things which are obvious cornerstones of the "Western Tradition": Aeneid Book VI; Aristotle's Poetics. (It's almost incredible that those went!) Where the plates used to show the gold mask traditionally associated with Agamemnon and a tablet from the longest surviving text of Gilgamesh, we now have some obscure Egyptian figures and writing not represented in the Anthology. Meanwhile, all the bad decisions of Ed. 8 - the uneven Lombardo translations, the ugly Musa version of Dante - are all still there. And the map of the Roman Empire is still labelled in Latin.

I expect that when I rent a text book it will be a little beat up and have some writing or highlighting in it, but I do not expect it to be filthy.

Great NCLEX Review resource

These flash cards were a real life saver; I seriously doubt if I would have passed the NCLEX-RN exam if I hadn't purchased them. Don't get me wrong; I did well in nursing school and kept up with my review, but the NCLEX RN is a very difficult test and test taking is not my strong suit. Flash cards are great because you can carry a few with you at all times and take advantage of even short time bursts for NCLEX review. 2011 is starting off to be a great year for me, because I no longer have to worry about passing the NCLEX, and much of that is due to getting this box of flash cards. Anyone who gets these cards and actually puts them to regular use will have a tremendous advantage on test day.

I ordered the flash cards a few weeks before my boards. I found it to be a very helpfull study tool. It was easy to bring the cards with me so I could study when ever i had a chance.

About the Author

Tad Williams is the bestselling author of the Memory, Sorrow & Thorn series, the Otherland series, and the Shadowmarch series. He has also written several other novels, such as Tailchaser’s Song, The War of the Flowers, and The Dragons of Ordinary Farm, which was co-written with his wife, Deborah Beale. His short fiction has appeared in such venues as Weird Tales, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, and in the anthologies Legends and Legends II. A collection of his short work, Rite, was released in 2006. He has also written for D.C. Comics, first with the miniseries The Next, and then doing a stint on Aquaman.

New OTHERLAND/OZ story

"The Boy Detective of Oz" is Tad Williams' second OTHERLAND story (following "The Happiest Dead Boy in the World", 2003) that deals with the future adventures of Orlando Gardiner, the eponymous dead boy, who is now the quasi-immortal ranger of the OTHERLAND network. These stories follow the events of the four main OTHERLAND novels, and while no knowledge of the books is strictly necessary, both stories are certainly much more fun if they are read after the novels.

This time Orlando has to deal with something that looks like a murder (the deceased is not actually completely dead, although he lacks his head), but the mysterious almost-death of the Royal Policeman of Kansas is not the only mystery in the Kansas/Oz simworld, because there is unrest in the otherwise peaceful and idyllic simworld. And civil war threatens---

The story is a wonderful return to OTHERLAND and I hope that Tad Williams will write more of Orlandos adventures. It is a great, fun story, especially for readers familiar with OTHERLAND. I suppose it is somewhat less succesfull as a stand-alone OZ story, but readers looking for a new OTHERLAND fix will be delighted.

I'll start by saying that the novels this story birthed from, The Otherland Series, are possibly my favorite novels of all time. So needless to say I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to once again return to the digital world of Otherland!

When I first read Otherland I was excited each time the characters would find themselves in different digital simulations, from ancient Egypt and Alice in Wonderland, to more completely unique realms in the book and especially Oz.

I just can't say enough about Tad Williams' ability to create a unique and fascinating world and story and then fully transport his readers into that place. He is possibly my favorite author of all time, and if you have not read him yet, then I would make one of his books the first one you read. I would start with is Otherland series if he is new to you, and then definitely come here and pick up this book as the cherry to top off your Otherland collection.

That being said, this is a very well written work and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The glass cat was witty and enjoyable and Orlando {The Boy Detective of Oz} was just as enjoyable as he was during my highly enjoyable read of the Otherland Series years ago. I was not let down at any moment and loved the twist at the end of the story. I won't be heading on to other works in this Oz series by different authors from here, but if you like Tad, or think you want to give a great author a read, then I just can't suggest this book and all of his other books enough!

Have a wonderful day! Do yourself a favor and pick this or one of his other books up. You'll be hooked on Tad for years to come.

Impeccable - A Journey to a Beloved Land

I am a huge fan of Tad Williams' "Otherland" series. In my opinion, books just don't get any better than that. So when I heard that "Oz Reimagined: The Boy Detective of Oz" existed, I dropped what I was doing to pick it up. I wasn't disappointed with what I found! While it's only a short story (damn you, Mr. Williams, for not giving us MORE OTHERLAND!), it's both a fun and poignant one. We get to check in on one of my favorite characters and what he's up to since the events of the Otherland series occurred. It seems he's putting his immortality to good use, but there's a melancholy about him, too, that reminds me of how very sad I was when his fate was sealed in the other books.

I can't tell you how happy I was to check back in on Orlando Gardiner, not to mention the new Oz/Kansas! Great writing from Tad and I hope to see more from the Otherland-verse, even if they are short stories!

This book is horrendous. I only read the first 38 pages, and that was enough to know it should never have been published. First off, life coaches do not counsel their clients. Ever. Counseling is only to be done by those licensed to do so. Second, life coaching bachelors degrees do exist. Third, life coaches do not give advice; they ask good questions to help their clients come to the answers on their own. Fourth, life coaches do not set out a plan for their clients, they help their clients make a good plan on their own. If it doesn't come from themselves, they most likely will not own it. That's just in the first 38 pages. Add all of this bad advice to the obvious typos and this book is not worth your time.

The perfect blueprint for becoming a life coach

Always been very interested in psychology, and what makes people tick, and I've often thought about being a counselor or psychologist or psychiatrist. And lately I have been hearing a lot about life coaching as a courier as it is often cross-referenced with jobs in the field of psychology and psychiatry. So I thought I would do some research and try to find out information about just exactly what a "life coach" does, and during the course of my research I stumbled across this book and I must say it was very useful. Not only did it explain exactly what a life coach is (it's sort of a cross between a psychiatrist and a marriage counselor), but it also clearly explained how to start a life coaching business. Everything from how to get certified as a life coach, and how to work with clients so they can become the best light coat possible and help other people live richer and happier lives by providing a gentle guiding hand to help them deal with whatever problems they might encounter and live up to their full potential.

So let you simply want to know more about life coaching and how it works. Or you are seriously interested in becoming a life coach as a career. I would highly recommend this book. It will do a great job of providing you with a comprehensive overview of exactly what you will need to know when do to become a qualified life coach and help your clients live their dreams. The information in this book is very easy to read and put into practice. It does not require an advanced psychology degree to understand the steps and strategies suggested make complete sense on a commonsense level, which means that as a life coach. It will be easier for you to convey the purpose and meaning of these strategies to your clients. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and this book has given me a lot to think about, although I know. More research will definitely be required before I can officially become a life coach (that is of course assuming that being a life coach is going to be my career path). Either way, this book has given me a lot to think about, in regards to psychology and how to help people deal with and process their problems.

Now, after reading this book I realized that life as a success coach is indeed very rewarding. You can help a lot of people succeed and reach their goals in life. This has inspired me a lot. Also, I learned so many great ideas and tips on how to start one's career as a life coach and the best thing that I've learned is that "life coaching should be results-based." The success of a life coach lies on his sincerity to help others succeed. As mentioned by Zig Ziglar, "you can have everything you want if you help enough people get everything they want." I love this book and will definitely recommend this to everybody.

About the Author

Jonathan Janz grew up between a dark forest and a graveyard. In a way, that explains everything. So far, he has written two novellas (Old Order and Witching Hour Theatre), several short stories, and one novel, The Sorrows. His primary interests are his wonderful wife and his three amazing children, and though he realizes that every author’s wife and children are wonderful and amazing, in this case the clich� happens to be true.

Calling this "spooky" would only make it sound quaint.

What's better than a spooky old house? How about a spooky old castle? Yeah, that's a good start, but what if the castle is on a remote island? Even better. With Jonathan Janz's debut novel, he presents a horror novel that offers a blend of old gothic chills and modern gruesomeness. But, does the combination work?

The Sorrows is a great evocative name, and just so happens to be the name of the castle in which this story is set, named after a symphony created by a composer named Blackwood whose family owns the estate off the southern California coast. Now, the castle will be the muse for an aging musician under deadline to compose the score for a much-hyped horror film. Ben Shadeland is divorced, and his ex-wife is turning their son, Joshua, against him as she moves in with a new lover named Ryan. So when Ben's friend and collaborator, Eddie, tries to convince him that the Sorrows is the perfect place to get the creative juices flowing, Ben reluctantly agrees if only in part to take his mind off the torment his ex is putting him through. Along for the ride are Claire, an aspiring musician in her own right who idolizes Ben and desperately wants to work with him, and Eva, a seductive assistant to their employer who is tagging along to keep tabs on their progress since Ben has a habit of pushing his deadlines. The four are flown via helicopter to Castle Blackwood where they will reside on their own until the movie score is finished.

At the same time, a young heir and all-round degenerate, Chris Blackwood, has descended into another tight squeeze, in debt with some unsavory characters, and his arrogant tycoon of a father has no sympathy for him whatsoever. As their story progresses intermittently through the novel, it becomes clear that Chris has some traumatic memories stemming from his childhood at Castle Blackwood, and his discovery of a long-lost journal belonging to his great-grandfather's servant--chapters of which also appear intermittently through the book--offer glimpses into the estate's sinister history. At first, the chapters involving Chris Blackwood seem tangential and used as filler, but it becomes evident before long that his path is bound to converge with the Sorrows once more.

Janz crafts a story that initially feels like a familiar one, but by the end of the first act a first swerve occurs and the predictable course of action disappears entirely. And by the end of the novel you realize, the story has gone in a direction you would never have anticipated. Despite some character motivations and behavior that feel suspect at times, his writing kept me off balance, as just when I thought I had the book figured out it would slightly askew and the terror would come from an entirely new direction. I'd go into greater detail on that, but I think readers ought to discover all of that for themselves.

Ben is a great protagonist and easily likable despite his shortcomings. His point of view is only one of a half-dozen or so, however, and the others (especially the journal entries of the Blackwood's servant, which harken to the Lovecraft and M.R. James style) offer a very good rounding of the dominant storyline. As for the chills and thrills, they vary from the classic gothic tension that comes from roaming halls and catacombs of an old castle, to some titillating and/or terrifying scenes that gives glimpses into the dreadful history of the castle and its former residents.

Some of the occurrences towards the end of the book, leading into the climax, strained my suspension of disbelief, but overall I thought this was a strong debut and I'm definitely looking forward to Janz's second outing through Samhain later this year, titled House of Skin--a title that gets its own cameo within this novel.

The Sorrows : Where Your Sins Wait For You

The Sorrows is the debut novel for author Jonathan Janz and man, does he set the bar high! What a great concept and wonderful execution. A band of souls travel to a remote island to stay in an old mansion that has secrets darker than Dracula's castle. Something sinister (is it even the devil himself?) was walled up in the tower room a hundred years ago. There's a beast in the basement and darkness in the hearts of those living trapped on the island. Through the terror thrill ride, there are some deeply poignant moments between the main character, Ben, and the son he fears losing. The ending has all the speed and suspense of a space shuttle hurtling through the atmosphere. This is a can't miss and I can't wait to read his next book.

Blood, Breasts, and Beasts

Joe Bob Briggs understood the importance of the 3 B's - blood, breasts, and beasts - and so does Jonathan Janz. The description of The Sorrows might lead you to believe, as I did, that this novel is an eerie and atmospheric tale. While the book has a dark, eerie atmosphere, it's more fast-paced and gruesome than you might initially expect. There is an erotic tension throughout the story as well, but with the same violence you experience in Richard Matheson's Hell House.

Ben and Eddie are film composers working on a score for a horror film, but Ben has been crippled with writer's block. Thinking a mysterious and haunted castle just might be the place to release his partner's creative energy, Eddie rents out Castle Blackwood, nestled on the island of The Sorrows off the coast of California. But instead of some spooky sounds and doors closing by themselves, the history of the castle - uninhabited since 1925 - is more disturbingly violent and sordid than Eddie bargained for. Accompanied by an actress from the movie and an ambitious composer hopeful, the four go from swapping anecdotes by the fire between sips of wine to a fight for their lives.

Janz doesn't shy away from exposing all the sex and blood of the story. His graphic prose and quick pace reminded this reader of a good ol' Richard Laymon novel. Oftentimes in a Laymon novel you hardly have time to come up for air and Janz' The Sorrows is the same way. As the secrets of Castle Blackwood are revealed, the reader gets closer to the source of evil and up close look at its shocking horrors. There are more than a few stomach-churning scenes that'll make you wanna cover your eyes to protect your innocent mind, but it's kinda hard to read that way!

This is a must for Laymon fans and horror readers who live the Joe Bob mantra; blood, breasts, and beasts!
