Best Yin Yoga Book Yet!

Bernie Clark manages to yet again capture the basics as well as the evolving nature of Yin Yoga. The blend of the philosophical and practical aspects of the practice is artful and complete. The many Yin Yoga flows are great for home practice or for use as a teaching aid. Yin for shoulders and in general, upper body is introduced. I questioned this at first having learned that Yin Yoga is meant to target mainly the lower body, the lower three chakras , but who's to say upper body can't be addressed from a Yin perspective? I have already introduced this in my classes and it has been very well received as have the wall Yin Yoga suggestions in the book.
If you are looking for a "complete guide" to Yin yoga, this is the one!

Even better than 'Yinsights'

This is THE definitive volume on Yin Yoga, recommended by both Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers.

It replaces Bernie Clark's earlier 'Yinsights' and is a huge improvement in that it has far more detail on how to go into the Yin postures.

I ordered three copies a few weeks ago and another is about to be ordered for our Yoga Teachers Association library.

Paul Grilley mentioned that he used Bernie Clark's earlier 'Yinsights' as a teacher training manual. I can't help but believe that 'The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga' will now replace 'Yinsights.'

My only small quibble is that the photographs could be better. But that does not stop this being a five-star book.

almost too comprehensive

I have a creaky back and knees essentially bone on bone. This book explains a type of yoga aimed at keeping joints looser. Thus far, in several weeks, my pain level has reduced to the point that the surgeon no longer felt hyalauronic acid injections necessary. My goal is to put off knee replacement as lomg as possible so I won't need to do it twice like my father.

There is a great deal of informarion about how different cultures would interpret the reasons this works. For me that is extraneous as I am pragmatic--more interested in whether it works than why and especially not three different cultural versions of medical treatment. But I and you can easily jump past what we don't want to the poses themselves. Someone else might find those sections helpful. The book is quite well written in all areas and well illustrated, which is extremely important for asanas.

PreSchool-Grade 2 Thomas refuses to wear his new brown snowsuit: "If you think I am going to wear that ugly snowsuit you are crazy!" He reinforces this statement with a resounding "NNNNNO" when his mother insists he don the suit. His mother jumps up and down, and they have an enormous fight. This behavior is repeated with Thomas' teacher and the school principal. In the process of a fight, Thomas and his teacher end up in their underwear. Thomas never suffers any ill-consequences for his rude behavior; he looks on with a smirk as his mother, teacher and principal are made to look foolish. In the end the principal retires to Arizona "where nobody ever wears a snowsuit." Thomas comes off as a manipulating, rude little brat. Audiences may chuckle over the cartoon-like illustrations; they are bright and colorful, and do fit the story. However, this is one Canadian import that should be left north of the border. Thomas' Snowsuit

As a Minnesota preschool teacher, I can't tell you how realistic this book is! (in an exagerated way, of course). This book has become a classroom favorite every winter when snowsuits are a way of life. Robert Munsch really knows children and the way they think. Thomas, his teacher, and even the principal have an excitable time getting Thomas into his brown snowsuit to play outdoors. A word of warning: underwear causes fits of hysterical laughter to any 3 to 5 year old!

Complete shocker!!

I ordered this book along with a few others and was completely shocked when I opened the box! The book is only 2 inches x 2inches in size - It looks as though it belongs to a toy doll - Extremely dissappointed - I intended to use this with my student during speech therapy sessions but I am doubtful that it will be useful now
I have ordered books from Amazon in the past and never stopped to look at the size of it before ordering but guess from now I will have to!

Lighten up and enjoy the ride!

I first heard this story in my education class while we were learning how to do shared reading in the classroom. Being read to in the child's perspective was interesting enough, but to have this book read was a blast. The pictures are humorous and the story makes children and adults laugh. Everyone knows that parents make you do something you can't stand. We have all seen "The Christmas Story" with the red-rider bb gun and the infamous overly wrapped for winter younger brother. This book reminds me of that hilarious scene. Once the teacher and the principal get in the act it gets all crazy. In the end, just like you would expect a child to do, he jumps right into his snowsuit when it lets him do something he wants to do, play. This is a sweet story, a good read for children.

Exactly what she wanted

Sometimes it's hard finding an "ology book that is exactly what you wanted. You read the reviews and they say "beautiful pictures" "everything you want to know about..." But the never tell you that it has tabs to pull, envelopes to open, dragon skin to feel, etc. well this has all of that!! We love these "ology books and have a few of them and lete tell you... they are great!

An Excellent and Comprehensive Introduction to Dragonology!

This peculiar old manuscript of arcane knowledge is a real treasure in the right hands.

The little details and the scrapbook-like assemblage of this introductory field guide is both intimate and charming.

Pros:
- Nicely, even elaborately detailed, with elegant but lucid prose and text.
- Includes various samples of actual artifacts, as gathered on location.
- Speaks with authority, yet welcomes and encourages the novice.
- Beautifully illustrated.
- Reasonably priced.

Cons:
- A little large for field use. A smaller companion field guide is needed.
- Will not resist moisture (dew or dragon breath) or tolerate high humidity (fog or dank caves) well. A laminated field guide is needed.
- Does not appear to be, nor claims to be flame retardant. A flame retardant field guide is needed.

wonderful book for those of us who truly believe in dragons, but in general all people can appreciate the beauty

This book was the first in the Ologies books I have purchased.
I got it for my daughter who is 6 and she is a HUGE HUGE dragon enthusiast she truly believes the are real. So I though me being a dragon lover myself I would see what all the fuss was about the ratings were high on it so I said "why not".
All I can say when we go this book in the mail is that I was speech less! It was far more gorgeous a d detailed than the pictures or advertising shows. My daughter had been asking me for days when will I get my dragon book? When? When?
So finally I got to show it to her when it got here and she was so happy. So I purchased another book in the series called Monsterology and when that one arrived it was every bit just as gorgeous as this book. So I am going to slowly buying the whole Ology collection because my whole family is crazy about anything mythical or amazing even thing that normal folks consider not real, well we usually think that there is some truth to them and maybe someday science will discover some of these creatures. Who knows, my belief is that anything is possible because we live on an amazing planet with so many things to discover that we don't even know halfof what all is out there.
So keep up the great inspirational books we love them and kids love them. Real or not I just love reading your books and I'm 29 so that says something my hubby is 42 and he is in love with these books.

Remind yourself why you became a designer!

This book is a wonderful source of inspiration, worth owning for the essay "Good Design is Goodwill" alone. The text appears at first to be slight, but will leave your psyche feeling nourished; Rand's writing style was very much like his graphic style: it's economical, but every word is perfectly chosen and placed.

Hey, the 70s and 80s are over...

No question about, when Paul Rand (and others)made the different logos that are in book, it worked like a charm. For the 70s and 80s, that is. There are lessons to be learned but the book feels stuck in the timeperiod 1970-80. So before buying it you should check it out first.
