Married by Force. Lovers by Choice.
Fitzwilliam Darcy has a history of cleaning up after George Wickham--the person whom he despises more than anyone in the world. First, he acted to save his sister from the villain when he set out to elope with her while she was only fifteen. Not long thereafter, Darcy impetuously declared his intention to marry a charming young woman from Hertfordshire, whom he secretly admired, to save her from scandal and ruination at the hands of his nemesis.
Darcy hoped he had seen the last of Wickham. Then an aunt he never knew showed up on his doorstep, after three decades abroad, shrouded in mystery and armed with secrets threatening his family's legacy. For reasons of her own, his aunt invites George Wickham into their lives. Wickham's reappearance sorely tests Darcy's relationships with his bride, his aunt, and his sister.
Knowing Wickham better than anyone, Darcy sets in place a trap that is certain to ensnare the scoundrel, thus revealing the man's true character to everyone.
MATTER OF TRUST is an engaging Pride and Prejudice "what-if" story with a hint of intrigue and a touch of romance!

Review
"Another P.O. Dixon what if, and again an excellent read. It's full of deviations and twists and turns, these turn the original story of Pride and Prejudice around and send it off in a completely new direction." - Jane Austen Prequels and Sequels
"I enjoyed how over time Elizabeth falls in love with Darcy post wedding, which may be more common for the time period. Dixon's writing always draws me in and I enjoy the escape for a few hours." - Books Hug Back!
From the Author
For the longest time, the relationship between the late Mr. Darcy and his godson George Wickham has intrigued me. My passion is asking Pride and Prejudice 'what-if' questions. It was simply a matter of time before I asked myself the following questions about the wayward lieutenant. What if he were not the son of the steward? What if he were of Darcy lineage? Would he have been a better man?
The answers came together for me while sitting in a restaurant in one of my favorite places in the world, historic Charleston South Carolina, when a much-loved oldie began playing. I knew this story before the song finished--from the beginning, to the middle, to the end. I put all other projects aside so I could capture it in writing.
A touch of romance ... Matter of Trust: The Shades of Pemberley differs from other stories I have written. Other stories follow my favorite couple through their conflict ridden journey towards falling in love. This story follows them on their journey towards learning to trust.
Matter of Trust is a story of family members believing one thing their entire lives, discovering the truth, and in the aftermath, learning to trust. A story about finding oneself in a situation not entirely of one's own choosing, about coming to terms with that fate, about learning to trust.
Read the sample excerpts. Know that it takes a different path. Should you decide to share this journey, enjoy!
About the Author
P O Dixon writes Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice adaptations with one overriding purpose in mind--falling in love with Darcy and Elizabeth all over again. Her initial exposure to Pride and Prejudice was in 2007. After watching the 2005 film at least two times a day for as many weeks, she determined she needed to know much more of the story's hero. After reading the novel, along with several excellent 'what-if' books that told the story from Mr. Darcy's perspective, she came across a link to the online Jane Austen Fan Fiction community. Her life has never been quite the same. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and preteen daughter, Elizabeth.

Another great book by P.O. Dixon
By S.C.Mema
I love stories by P.O.Dixon. Her characters live and breathe, and they have conversations that real people would have.
Matter of Trust introduces a new character to our expected cast. Darcy has an aunt, a Darcy by birth, and his aunt holds secrets and an agenda of her own. She has paid a price for her youthful indiscretions, imprudence that continues to cost her decades later. Does she return to Pemberley seeking atonement or something more sinister?
Darcy also has a new wife, their hasty marriage a result of Wickham's attempted compromise of Elizabeth, and his aunt is determined to exert her influence over Pemberley, even if it means running roughshod over the new Mrs. Darcy. As his aunt ingratiates herself with Elizabeth and Georgiana, Darcy becomes increasingly suspicious of her motives. Can Darcy find the answers he seeks, all the while trying to win the heart of the woman he has come to love?
This story is character driven, developing the relationships between the Darcy family members and those who would become part of their family.

Imaginative, original, & unpleasant
By tachi1
I have read other P&P variations by this author and know she is an original thinker, expresses her ideas well, and comes up with different approaches, problems, and solutions. She is a competent author,
But in this book, despite the overall competence, she has produced an unpleasant reading experience for the reader. The main reason is her creation of an unredeemable character in the person of Lady Alexandra. This bitter, selfish, self-pitying character wreaks havoc on everyone's life and yet one detects a certain unexplainable fondness or sympathy for her on the part of the author. In addition, the basic personalities of Elizabeth, Darcy, & Georgiana are doubly altered: first because they were written differently to begin with and secondly because of their interactions with The obnoxious Lady Alexandra (who doesn't bring out the best in anyone).
So we are left with a book, which was short but felt long, in which unpleasant and mostly unlikely things happen, in which the most joyful event is survival, and in which you find yourself not really caring about these people you've known so long. The Pemberley in which Lady Alexandra lives is not one I would ever care to revisit.
